Important legal precedent set... parents charged with neglecting child's teeth

Hopefully the charges laid against Pennsylvania parents who failed to provide their child with necessary dental treatment will motivate other parents to get their kids to a dentist regularly.

A six-year old girl could have lost her life to her severity of her dental disease, noted a dentist who  had examined the young child. Her parents were supposed to bring their daughter in for a dental appointment that would treat her 14 abscessed teeth, however they never showed up. As a result, the couple faces criminal charges for their neglect.

No body part is off limits when it comes to tattoos... including teeth!

So how about a canine on your canine tooth? Apparently "tatteeth" are becoming the latest trend for tattoo lovers who are looking for new places to display their favourite artwork!

"Tatteeth" as they are called, are limited to dental crowns and can feature anything from Homer Simpson to a Coverette.

So what's your take on this new fad, Brantford?

Prevent Carbon Monoxide Tragedies. End the Silence

The headline of this particular post is not one that I wrote myself, but it is something that I feel very passionate about.

John Gignac, Foundation Founder
I am proud to support the very important work of Brantford North Dental's patient and friend, John Gignac, in his ongoing work to prevent tragedies like the one that took his precious niece and her family away from him.

My family had a very close call with Carbon Monoxide but a CO alarm actually saved our lives. After the alarm went off, we quickly evacuated our home and were rushed to the hospital so the levels of CO in our bodies could be tested. We learned that had we stayed in the house even an hour longer, we most likely would not have survived.

The Hawkins-Gignac Foundation for CO Education has already accomplished so much, including the creation of the Hawkins-Gignac Act (Bill 77) in Ontario. This vital piece of legislation requires a carbon monoxide alarm to be installed in any Ontario residence with a fuel-burning appliance or heating system, fireplace or attached garage.

We encourage everyone to learn more about John's work, donate to this important cause, and get educated about the silent dangers of carbon monoxide by visiting www.endthesilence.ca. And PLEASE, make sure you protect your loved onces with a CO alarm.

Brantford Dentist, Dr. Steven Deskin, is always urging his patients to quit smoking for the simple reason that it is bad for not only their oral health but for their general health and wellbeing as well.

New research has revealed that smoking also has a negative impact on a smoker's tastebuds, impeding them from not tasting foods as they otherwise would.

Another illegal dental office shut down

Thee separate investigations conducted the the College of Dental Surgeons of British Columbia have resulted in the shutdown of three illegal dental offices. This is great news for members of the public, who can be exposed to significant risk at the hands of these uncertified practitioners.

On another positive note, the equipment seized in the process is being put to good use by being donated to local free or low-cost dental clinics that serve individuals in need.

New Study Reveals Connection Between Gum Disease and Oral Cancer

brantford dentist, gum disease, oral cancer
Researchers from Case Western Reserve University have discovered that two byproducts of bacteria that are commonly found in gum disease can incite the growth of deadly cancerous tumours in the mouth.

This finding reinforces the important link between dental hygiene and overall physical health. It also offers promise for an earlier detection of mouth cancers in the future, thereby improving prognoses.
